A power of attorney is a legal document in which you appoint another person or persons as your attorney authorize them to deal with your property or health care on your behalf. There are two common powers of attorney that are used as part of an estate plan - a continuing power of attorney for property and power of attorney for personal care. The important element about these powers of attorney which distinguishes them from standard powers of attorney is that they can be valid even if the maker is no longer capable of making property or health care decisions.
